About Jomi

Hey Guys! We’re Johnson and Michelle! a couple from Malaysia who’ve swapped the ordinary for a life of road trips, hidden gems, and capturing real adventures.
We first met back in uni life, and what started as team members working together and quickly turned into partners in life and travel.
After being together for 9 amazing years (and counting), we’ve shared everything from exam stress to airport layovers.
You might be wondering, why Jomi TravelKaki?
👫 Jomi is a combination of our names: Johnson + Michelle
✈️ TravelKaki comes from Malaysian slang, where “kaki” means “buddy” or “partner”‘.
So together, it means Travel Partners. Pretty much sums us up!

Johnson ♂
An engineer by profession, and the quiet compass of our journey, Johnson comes from the east of Malaysia (Sarawak). He’s the one who always finds the safest route, fixes things when they fall apart, and drives through rain, shine, and gravel roads without complaint.
He is the guy behind the lens. He’s always on the lookout for epic views, cool angles, and capturing real moments as they happen. Whether it’s chasing sunrises or hiking through hidden gems.
Michelle ♀
The bubbly storyteller and creative soul of Jomi TravelKaki. Michelle hails from the west of Malaysia (Johor), just next to Singapore. She is the creative brain behind the screen. She does all the editing, storytelling, and turns our raw clips into fun and meaningful travel videos, and sharing our journey with you online.
With a background in Social Media marketing and a heart full of wanderlust, she’s always looking for the next dreamy spot.
Why and How?
In 2020, we came to New Zealand on a working holiday, hoping for new experiences, then the pandemic hit.
While plans changed, it gave us the unexpected gift of time to slow down and explore this stunning country in depth.
From epic road trips to peaceful nature escapes, New Zealand became our adventure playground.
But our travel dreams go far beyond one country. Jomi TravelKaki is our way of documenting every step of this journey,
from Aotearoa to wherever our hearts (and backpacks) take us next.
